Letters, memos and newspaper clippings relating to the Old Manse Library and other Miramichi matters: Lord Beaverbrook's gifts of books, a planetaruim, puppet theatre and a hurdy-gurdy (barrel organ) to the library; donations of books from the American people and private sources; appeal to Carnegie Corporation for books and library expenses and administration. Brief mention is made of The Square, The Enclosure, Manny's weekly radio broadcast, folk-songs, a speech delivered by R.B. Bennett before the Teachers' Institute at Newcastle [Dec. 15, 1889] and the steamboat "Max Aitken." The file contains sample tickets and an advertising circular relating to the Miramichi Folk Song Festival [Sept. 3-5, 1958] and the wording of the inscription on the Sinclair Rink plaque. It also discusses the nomenclature of the word "Miramichi" as well as sources relating to the early history of the region.

Louise Manny, 1890-1970, provided Beaverbrook's ongoing contact with his native Newcastle. Their correspondence spans from 1946 to his death in 1964. Beaverbrook supported her in her historical research on the Miramichi, her folk song collecting, and her work in the development of the historic burial ground at Wilson's (Beaubair's) Point into a park named The Enclosure. In the early 1950s he appointed her in charge of the Old Manse Library, his boyhood home, where she continued until her death. ...
